Award
winning Visitors Centre & Armouries. Fort Paull is a gun battery
situated on the North bank of the Humber, near the village of Paull,
down stream from Hull . Fort Paull is the only fully intact Napoleonic
Fortress in the North. Covering 10 acres of land . It started as a fortress
of coastal defence built by Henry VIII in the mid-sixteenth century.
There
is plenty of free parking up to the gate of the fort .
This
Museum is full of Underground tunnels and rooms, which can be a bit
frightening at times for the smaller ones . Access is is usually by
steps which can be slippery when wet . People with walking disabilities
may find access difficult .
There
are displays which take you through many different periods in history,
including period artillery and waxworks. The history of the fort has
been varied and it includes being an Ammunition Depot during the 2nd
world war.
Paull Point Battery

The
current building, Paull Point Battery, was built between 1861 and 1864
as part of the Palmerston defences of the major ports and it was used
until 1960
Fort
Paull is in a good position for viewing the Humber Bridge up river,
or watching the huge North Sea Ferries cruise up and down the Humber
on their way to the Continent.
The
Blackburn Beverley was a heavy-lift transport aircraft which served
with the RAF between 1956 and 1967. Only 47 Beverleys were built at
Brough, East Yorkshire. You can go inside the plane but the ladders
are a bit steep to gain access to the top floor .






There
is the Duke of York Bar/Restaurant and Churchill Tea Rooms. Daily Craft
fair.
